This is a fantastic forum to find out information about dementia care, share stories, and interact with a fast-growing positive and sincere online community.

Why is our support group different?….Because it is so much more than a support group where we share information and resources to provide fast help to families and carers.

Our caring community is positively talking about dementia without the usual barriers. In the group we have dementia trainers, nurses, carers, family members and people with dementia. This enables everyone to  understand each other’s perspective and be aware of the difficulties and challenges being faced on a daily basis. Modern dementia care  needs a ‘team’ approach where the person with dementia’s feelings and well-being is at the forefront of care. Dementia Downunder has a ‘people helping people’ mindset.

Once you click the green button below  – you will be opened up to a world of dementia care experience and support like no other.

When my dad (Bob) was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease we were in shock but decided to put our family story in the public arena to create awareness about dementia and to help other families in a similar position. We have had an extreme journey with just about everything dementia can throw at us. We have become a closer family unit, my dad has received the best care possible, and we spent quality time with a man we love. We visited him everyday in the nursing home and now have a unique understanding of hospitals, aged care, volunteering and dementia care from the inside! By clicking on the ‘My Diary Blog’ tab above – you can have  a ‘fly on the wall’ style insight into our roller-coaster journey with dementia.

If you want to find a story about a particular topic simply type a word into the ‘search’ field on the top right of this page.To receive each story  in your email inbox – type your email address in the ‘subscribe to blog’ field above.

Due to the stigma in the community you rarely have people openly discussing their battle with dementia. This is our personal story……

zzfindresources

The world of dementia care is a very confusing place. Click on the resources tab above to be ‘fast tracked’ to the services you need. We were so involved in the caring of Bob that we simply did not have the time to get help. More resources are added regularly and this page can save you a lot of time searching on Google.
